Zakynthos Flower of the East is the highly anticipated history book about the Greek Ionian island of Zakynthos, also known as Zante. The book is the combination of over seven years of hard work and research by two authors, who have dedicated their combined passion for writing and love of history in order to complete this book. The contents will be interesting to both Greeks, residents of Zakynthos and tourists who want to learn more about the islands past.

The book
For those who haven’t visited the Greek island of Zakynthos, there's a wealth of history, tradition and culture just waiting to be discovered. The history of Zakynthos is a complex and lengthy one having been occupied by so many nations, plundered by marauding pirates and invaded during World War Two. In this book we hope to show readers the incredible history of the island, as well as what they can experience now as a visitor of tourism. There's also a special section for all you who love your Greek food, as Louise has shared some of her favourite Zakynthian Greek recipes.

The research and writing
An important part of this book is research. Hundreds, if not thousands, of hours have been spent researching this book by the authors. Research has not only taken place at the authors desks, but also by reading many books, old documents, talking to experts and visiting sites of interest, including museums and library's.
Getting this book right, with as much information in as possible, is the most important thing, but as boring as it may sound to some, it's an incredibly exciting journey that both authors are loving!

The authors
Chrissie Parker and Louise Inzk are two  writers who have a love of Greece, most notably the Ionian Islands.
Both also have a huge passion for history, culture and tradition and like being able to show tourists and other international visitors to Zakynthos just why the island is so special, something they currently do through their work for the Zakynthos Informer.
Now they are working together on this book, Zakynthos Flower of the East which has become a huge labour of love for them both.

Why Zakynthos?

"Loved by poets, visited by travellers, fought over for centuries."

Zakynthos sits to the east of mainland Greece, one of a chain of seven islands called the Ionian islands. Home to endangered Loggerhead turtles and Monachus Monachus (monk seal), it's a paradise of green mountains, sweeping beaches and blues seas. Anyone who's ever visited the Island will tell you that once you've been, you won’t want to leave and it'll leave a mark on your heart that will remain for the rest of your life.

Many however, don't realise what an incredibly interesting past it has, and think that because the Great Ionian Earthquake of 1953 destroyed much of the island its history too was lost. This book aims to show readers that history was never lost, it was just hiding, waiting to be discovered and written up, so that visitors of the modern age, as well as residents, could learn more about the island that's now become one of the most popular tourists destinations in the world.
